THE TAP-NET ON THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF THE VOICES OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR AND CIVIL SOCIETY is a global network of African and non-African professionals with vast experience in issues relating to capacity building in the area of civil society and private sector participation in governance and development management. The main objective of VOICENET is to help strengthen ACBF's internal capacity and enhance its access to a wider pool of experts in the area of professionalization of the voices of non-state actors in development management. VOICENET is, for most part, a virtual network, which assists the Foundation's Secretariat on needs basis in the following areas, among others:
  • Provision of technical and advisory support in the development and appraisal of projects and programs designed to build and strengthen capacity in the participation/constructive engagement by civil society in governance and development management and the growth of the private sector on the African continent.
  • Contribution by means of technical and advisory services to the growth of the Foundation's knowledge generation and sharing programs.
  • Active participation as a member of the community of practice into which VOICENET is evolving.
  • Participation in, leading and/or coordinating operations-related and thematic research and publications on capacity building and development management issues in the area of professionalization of the voices of the private sector and civil society.
  • Contribution to best practices notes in capacity building as it relates to the role of civil society and the private sector in governance and development policy management issues.
  • Contribution to notes to share lessons of experience in capacity building, governance and development management.
  • Participation in the provision of knowledge-related services - capacity profiling/needs assessment exercises, research to fill information and knowledge gaps, and publications, among others, to strengthen ACBF's public sector, private sector and civil society interface capacity building operations.
  • Organization of Network seminars and workshops, and participation in other ACBF conferences, workshops and seminars.
  • Participation in the preparation of summaries of/or lessons notes from project performance review in the area of public-private sectors and civil society interface in development management.
  • Participation in synthesizing abstracts from research/policy analysis work undertaken in the area of professionalization of the voices of the private sector and civil society in governance and development management.

Members of VOICENET are drawn from social science and development management disciplines and are accomplished captains of industry, civil society activists, development managers, policy analysts, researchers and practitioners with extensive experience in the development and appraisal of private sector and civil society development and interface projects, interventions in capacity building, applied policy research, and knowledge management in the area of civil society participation and constructive engagement in governance and development management and enhanced growth and visibility of the private sector in the development process.
