The African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development or Centre Africain de Formation et de Recherche en Administration de Developpement (CAFRAD) was established in 1964 and entrusted with the mission to support the efforts of African governments to “Africanize” their civil service and upgrade their skills in order to adapt the administration inherited from the colonial period to the new African context and realities.  At its 33rd Regular Meeting, in May 2005, the Executive Board approved a grant of US$700,000 to support CAFRAD. On the 27th of June 2012, ACBF signed a grant of US$ 2 million for a second phase.

The main goal of the project is to enhance the human and institutional capacities of the Centre in order to help African governments and institutions in their efforts to achieve sound and effective public administration and good governance.
