Economic Policy Analysis and Management
1993

The Economic Policy Unit Unité de Politique Economique (UPE) was established to produce and disseminate economic policy analyses and to build indigenous capacity to undertake those analyses through training. The unit was attached to the cabinet of the Minister of Finance, and Economic Affairs. In April 1993, the Executive Board awarded a grant of US$1,912,200.

UPE made a significant impact on economic policy analysis and formulation in Senegal. Many studies generated by UPE served as inputs to major strategic documents such as, PRSP, NEPAD, Private Sector Development Strategy, Capacity Building and Good Governance Program etc. UPE has was at the forefront of the processes leading to the finalization of these strategic documents. In addition, it helped the Government of Senegal to engage in several structural economic reforms, policy discussions with the World Bank, the IMF and the donor community in general, and to participate in major debates in the framework of WAEMU and other regional institutions.
