The Public Sector Management Training Program (PSMTP) was identified, developed and validated by representatives of training institutions, the public sector, civil society and donors, to address the need to increase the supply of qualified public sector managers on the African continent in response to a study commissioned by ACBF. In December 2004, the ACBF Executive Board approved a grant of US$3,000,007,50 to PSMTP of the Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA) for refinancing a Master’s Degree program in Public Sector Management .At its 44thRegular Meeting, in December 2010, the Executive Board approved a grant of US$ 3 million towards PSMTP II.
The main objective of this project is to improve the performance and productivity of the public sector in the Anglophone West African countries through the provision of balanced academic and professional training in public sector management in Africa. The specific objectives are to (i) Strengthen the Masters’ Degree program in Public Sector Management to meet the current and emerging issues (ii) Enhance the institutional and human capacity of GIMPA to meet the current and emerging public sector issues (iii) Strengthen the institutional and human capacities of institutes of public administration to deliver in country PSMTP programs.
