ABOUT THE INSTITUTION AND DEPARTMENT:

The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) is a specialized agency of the African Union responsible for Capacity development in Africa. It has a membership of 40 African countries as well as the African Development Bank (AfDB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank. The Foundation was established in 1991 to address Africa’s severe capacity gaps. To date is has strengthened the capacities of 50,000+ public service officials, supported 70 higher learning institutions, established a network of 50 African think tanks and generated more than 500 knowledge products.

The Foundation has a current five-year strategy (2023-2027) which focuses on human capacity development and institution building in four impact areas: Climate Change & Energy productive Use, Economic and Social Governance, Agribusiness & Food Sovereignty, and Trade as an Engine for Economic Development.

The Economic and Social Governance (ESG) Unit, under the Programs and Impact Department of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) implements programs aimed at achieving strategic pillar number four ‘Economic and Social Governance’ of ACBF’s Strategic Plan 2023-2027. The Unit’s main objective is to:

  • Enhance evidence-based and purpose-driven policy making.
  • Enhance domestic revenue for financing development priorities.
  • Improve the performance of public financial management systems.

To actualize these strategic objectives, the unit is implementing several programs including Enhancing Leadership and Governance in Public Financial Management, African Finnish Partnership for Taxation Capacity in Africa and Capacity Development for Africa’s Strategic Transformation among others.

Role Summary:

As a Learning Experience Intern, you will be responsible for supporting the creation of engaging and effective learning experiences, including the design and development of innovative and impactful training programs and managing community engagement of current and prospective participants.

You will work closely with subject-matter experts (SMEs), eLearning specialist, multimedia specialist, instructional designers and program staff, to support blended and fully online learning journeys that are learner-centered, culturally relevant, and aligned with the African Capacity Building Foundation mission. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who is able to work within a team.

 Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design & Development
    • Create engaging, interactive learning activities (online, hybrid, and in-person).
    • Align learning objectives and outcomes with compelling instructional content and course elements.
    • Develop thumbnails and presentation assets for online courses.
  2. Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Understand learning needs, and co-create content with Subject Matter Experts, trainers, and program managers.
    • Facilitate pilot testing with participants and gather feedback from learners.
    • Maintain and segment the partners, current and prospective course participants email lists.
  3. Engagement monitoring
    • Monitor engagement of course participants and collect insights on performance.
  4. Research & Innovation
    • Stay up to date with the latest trends in eLearning and educational technology and suggest relevant improvements.
  5. Quality Assurance

       Ensure all content aligns with adult learning principles, accessibility, and course development standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Education Technology, or related field.
  2. Certificate in User Interface Design or Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is an added advantage.
  3. Experience with design tools, like Figma for prototyping.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  6. Self-driven, proactive, and receptive to feedback.
