Professionalisation of the Voices of the Private Sector & Civil Society

CI ROAF’s goal for the programme was to enhance development of a fair and efficient market in Africa and the participation of civil society in the progress of national, regional and international policy dialogue and decision-making.

The project aimed to strengthen of the institutional capacities of national and sub-regional African Consumers organisation. Specific objectives included:

  • Creating a more conducive legal environment for consumer protection in selected African countries;
  • Creating a gender sensitivity to, awareness of, and participation in public sector reform through empowerment and capacity building of consumer activists/ institutions, government agencies and journalists;
  • Developing capacities in and among consumer groups and related civil society organisations to monitor market related economic policies and the implementation of laws and regulations and dialogue with the public and private sectors on issues that affect consumers livelihoods;
  • Empowering consumers by strengthening the organisational development; planning and operations of consumer groups for efficiency, accountability and sustainability
