The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) was established as an autonomous not-for-profit organization with financial support from the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), Government of Uganda (GoU), and other donors in 1993, which was a period of far-reaching economic reforms in Uganda. It was registered in Uganda under the companies Act (Cap. 110) as a company limited by guarantee and not having share capital. The Centre was designed to fill gaps in economics research, policy analysis, and capacity building within the Uganda policy processes. The main objective of the Centre upon creation was to conduct and disseminate high quality economic research for policy formulation and advisory by the institutions’ stakeholders, and contribute to building analytical capacity through training and technical assistance.

The goal of the EPRC project has been to strengthen the think tank, so that it continues to contribute effectively to the national policy formulation and development process in Uganda. Specifically the current phase focuses on:

  • Consolidating EPRC’s contribution to the policy formulation and development process through conducting and disseminating high quality applied economic research and policy analysis;
  • Providing technical support to government and other stakeholders in the policy making, implementation and monitoring process; and
  • Strengthening EPRC’s institutional capacity to conduct policy oriented economic research, policy analysis and capacity building programs.
