Enhancing capacity to engage and regulate the Productive Sector
FANRPAN is a not-for-profit voluntary regional organization established in 2003 to support the development and implementation of better Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR) policies in East and Southern Africa. Its members include universities, research institutes, the business sector, farmer groups and civil society organizations that have a stake in FANR policies organized in country nodes. FANRPAN was rated in the top thirty think tanks in Africa by the University of Pennsylvania and was specifically cited for effective use of science and technology.
The specific objectives of the intervention are to:
- enhance the capacity of the FANRPAN RegionalSecretariat to carry out itsadvocacy and networking mandate;
- enhance the capacity of Country Nodes (which are housed in strategicpolicyunits in the ESA countries) to facilitateadvocacy on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) policy formulation in coordination and coherencewith the FANRPAN Secretariat; and
- strengthenknowledge, learning and information sharing within FANRPAN networks. The intervention will in addition ensure the effective engagement of women in all aspects of the project as women are the majority of the actors at tends tarting end of the agricultural value chain.
The project has the following three main components:
- improving the organizational performance at the level of the FANRPAN RegionalSecretariat
- Capacity building component at the level of 16 Country nodes ;
- Knowledge Management, Communication and Dissemination component at the level of the networks whichaggregate 670 membersin 16 countries comprising a diverse group of organizations (includinguniversities, research institutes, the business sector, farmer groups and other civil society organizations) that have a stake in FANR policyprocesses.
